While on a day road-trip through the Georgian Bay area of Ontario (on a recent visit to family in Barrie), we took shelter from an on again, off again downpour in a lovely eatery/gift shop (The Many Hands of Meaford) in the little town of Meaford. While waiting for our food to be prepared and served, I struck up a conversation with Marjorie, who was just finishing up her tea and waiting for her shuttle bus to come and transport her back to her care home. I don’t remember what we talked about, small talk really, but I do remember being made to feel quite welcome and at ease in talking with her and Michelle, the owner of the cafĂ©, which as it happened, was Marjorie’s daughter. She graciously agreed to allowing me to snap her portrait…

Great crepes, great coffee, great hospitality…

(And it turns out that Michelle’s daughter lives on Salt Spring Island—small world indeed!)
