Clover Point, 2010

I love this image soooo much. I know, I know – you’re looking at this and saying you don’t get it, you have no idea what you’re looking at, but something must have gone terribly wrong.

Exactly! I did everything wrong, on purpose. I hand held my 4×5 pinhole camera for a long exposure. I pointed it directly at the sun. I used old, expired film. I messed up the colour development process. And I got this image full of energy and motion, made on a breezy September day on the shore, looking south over the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It’s wild. Better than my wildest dreams. It made me rethink what right and wrong mean when making images.
